About Us

The National Transportation Safety Committee was established by Presidential Decree in 2012 (Perpres No.2 Tahun 2012), as a permanent independent institution responsible to the President of Republic of Indonesia
.

The NTSC is responsible for the investigation of safety deficiencies of aviation, maritime, railway and road transportation.
Based on the results of accident investigations, the NTSC issues recommendations to prevent the recurrence of similar accidents. The NTSC conducts research and studies necessary to perform these duties, and to identify possible safety deficiencies (see Investigation Methodology).

The very important aspect of the investigation is that the sole objective of the activity is to prevent accident/incident, not to apportion blame or liability.

Investigation Methods

NTSC shall conduct reactive and proactive researches. Proactive researches include:

  2. Evaluating the effectiveness of other government agencies transportation safety programs

  3. Assessing and reviewing transportation issues

Meanwhile, a reactive research will only be performed whenever an accident/incident occurs (see flow chart).

A database is maintained to identify and project the trends.

To prevent accidents/incidents recurrence, the NTSC develops and issues safety recommendations to other government agencies, the industry, and other organizations to improve transportation safety.
